From a hard-hitting cop to a ruthless gang leader, Surya has done all that with ease. He is one of the most promising South Indian actor of recent times. Lest have a look at the various avatars done by Surya in his Carrier till now.

The soft spoken youth, who mad his debut with ‘Nerukku Ner’ in 1997, went on to act in a series of mushy romantic films. Some of them, such as ‘Poovellam Kettuppar’ and ‘Friends’ were huge hits at the Box Office.

It was Bala’s ‘Nanda’ (2001) that won Surya ‘quality actor’ tag. His intense performance in the film fetched him the Tamil Nadu State Award for Best Actor. Later, he played a memorable role in Bala’s ‘Pithamagan’.

‘Kakha Kakha’ (2003) has been one of the high points in the film career of Surya. In the trendsetter film by Goutham Menon, Surya played a tough cop -as-nails police officer who is bent on battling crime.

In ‘Perazhagan’, directed by Sasi Sankar, Suriya plays a double role–one that of a confident hunchback and the other, a boxer. His performance as the hunchback won him many accolades and awards.

Surya’s Aaru and Vel directed by Hari went on to become Box office hits. In Aaru Surya plays a ruthless gang-leader where in Vel he has done a dual role.

The film which got Surya national attention is the Ghajini. Surya played a short term memory loss patient who meticulously executes a bloody revenge in the movie. Surya and Asin shared a great chemistry and the movie went to become very big Box Office hit. Later in 2009 the movie was remade in Hindi titled as same Ghajini with Aamir Khan doing the lead role and the movie went on to become Bollywood biggest Box Office hit.

In 2008 Surya’s Vaaranam Aayiram, directed by Goutham Menon, turned to be a milestone film in his successful carrier. Surya essayed four roles with consummate ease – from an adolescent to an ailing old man and from a frustrated youth to a committed army commando. Vaaranam Aayiram helped Surya to get more youth fans.

In 2009 Surya’s Ayan went on to become biggest hit in the career and the movie is still going string after completing 100 days. Ayan is an complete entertainer director by K.V Anand with Action, Comedy and Sentiment packed in it. Surya’s chemistry with Tamanna in the movie was also a strong reason, since it pulled youths in to theaters.

In 2009 Surya’s Aadhavan directed by K.S Ravikumar was also released for Diwali and the movie to went on to become one of the biggest blockbuster of the year 2009. For the first time Surya plays an action hero with negative shades. Nayanthara paired up with Surya in the movie and Devisri Prasad scored music for the film.

Surya is currently acting in director Hari’s Singam. The movie shooting is currently 90% over and it will be release on April 2010. Surya pairs with Anuksha and he plays a cop role for the second time in is carrier.
