Vaaranam Aayiram Wins Best Popular Tamil Movie National Award

Surya’s Vaaranam Aayiram has won Best Popular Tamil Movie award at the 56th National Film Awards. Vaaranam Aayiram was directed by Gautham Menon in which Surya acted in dual lead roles, whilst Sameera Reddy, Divya Spandana and Simran Bagga played female lead roles in the film.

Vaaranam Aayiram illustrates the theme of how a father often came across his son’s life as a hero and inspiration, whose death was deeply mourned in the end. As a tribute to the father of the director, the film opened in several countries with critical acclaim for director Gautham Menon and Surya’s performance. The movie musical score was done by Harris Jayaraj and it was huge hit of the year 2008.

Surya to do Movie with Amal Neerad?

Surya has confirmed that he is soon going to do a film with the trendsetting Malayalam writer, director and cinematographer Amal Neerad. Amal Neerad is the former cinematographer of Ram Gopal Varma and has worked with him in James, Shiva, Darna Zaroori Hai.

Amal Neerad has also directed two films with Mammootty’s Big-B and Mohanlal’s Sagar alias Jacky-Reloaded. These two films were stylishly mounted like a Hollywood film, but were not so stressful at Box Office.

Surya gives competition to Aamir Khan!

Aamir Khan is being given a run for his money for the title of Mr. Perfectionist by south sensation Surya as he takes his Hindi lessons way too seriously. Honing his Hindi vocabulary, Surya is learning the perfect pitch to deliver his dialogues for the Ram Gopal Varma political thriller Rakht Charitra.

Apparently so serious is Surya to make a perfect Bollywood debut, that he has gone ahead and hired a tutor to improve his diction in Hindi. RGV must be so proud of him.

Apart from Surya, actor Vivek Oberoi is also to be seen in this flick in the role of gangster Paritala Ravi. Rakht Charitra is expected to go on floors from February 2010.

Surya denies staring in Sinhalese movie

Actor Surya was reported to have signed for a Sri Lankan movie that turned to be a sensational talk across the town. All these started Recently, when an English daily had carried an item on the remake of Sinhalese film Devadasigal in Tamil with Surya-Simran in the lead. The director Suresh Kumarasinghe of the film had also also confirmed the news in a press interview.

This news stirred up a kind of frustration amongst his fans since the actor had earlier protests against Sri Lankan government for torturing Eelam Tamilians. Tamil activists including Pazha Nedumaran severely criticised Surya for accepting the offer from a director, who is originated from Sinhalese community.
